Day 1 rained off

Sunday, Noon.
After the glitz and glamour of the opening ceremony, the tennis event at the Beijing Olympics was clled off on Day 1 with many matches still to be played - including Andy and Jamie's opening dubs match against Daniel Nestor and Frederic Niemeyer.
Doubts surround the participation of the latter in the doubles event, with unconfirmed reports suggesting Niemeyer has had to withdraw with an elbow injury he picked up in the singles event.
However, the tennis Rules and Regulations do allow for a replacement to be found from the singles event. We'll have to wait and see what Monday's OOP suggests.
The weather that put a halt to proceedings in Beijing was pretty severe. The BBC described the scene on the main show court:
"We're going to have to hire a submarine to get out of this place. The court is completely under water. The scoreboard says, very optimistically, 'no play before 1800', which is 1100 BST. I'd be amazed if we have any more play today."

Whilst it allows London 2012 opening ceremony staff more time to word their resignation letters, it has left the players twiddling their thumbs.
The rain will likely play some part in the schedule for Monday, when Andy was expected to start his singles campaign against Chinese Taipei's Lu Yen-Hsun.
