Jamie Q&A
14 February, 2007 | 15:02
Ed: We’ll start with one from Xenon who wants to know how it feels having won in Dallas…
Jamie: Yeah, it’s big. We played pretty well all week, and then obviously won a tight one in the final. I think we deserved to win, we had quite a lot of break points in the second set. We’re pleased, it’s our first tournament together in a long while, we’re excited.
Ed: And we had video clips on the tournie site….chicken wings to download!
Jamie: Yeah the tournament was loving all the clips and everything. It was good fun for the players, normally the challengers don’t do that.
Ed: Next question…how do you see your partnership developing with ‘booty?’ Is this a fixture now?
Jamie: Yeah, I think we’re going to play a little bit more now, over the next few months and see how it goes. We’ve only played two tournaments together and we’ve played pretty well in both of them so far, so I think we’ll do pretty well.
Ed: In terms of partnerships, is there a ‘normal’ period of time that it takes to adjust to a new partner?
Jamie: I think it just depends. I mean, we’ve played pretty well in the tournaments that we’ve played. But then I could play with someone else and it might take a while, it depends on who you are playing with and the personality of people.
Ed: It’d take you quite a long time to gel with me…
Jamie: Possibly. We might need to give it a bit of work.
Ed: We might get the hang of it towards the end of your career.
Jamie: Yeah, when I’m on my last legs.
Ed: Here’s another question. What’s the rivalry like between you and James Auckland?
Jamie: We’re good friends. I wouldn’t say we’d like each other to lose matches, but at the same time we want to be the highest ranked player, which is normal.
Ed: Did he text you after Dallas? Would he do the same thing?
Jamie: We speak on MSN , just say well done and stuff!
Ed: Ok, another question. What surface do you think suits your game best?
Jamie: I probably prefer playing on indoor hard. Then this year I’ll probably play a lot more on clay. I didn’t really do that last season really. But yeah, I certainly prefer indoor hard, but again that’s only for a few months of the year.
Ed: What about the US? Andy’s a fan, are you with him on that one?
Jamie: I’ll probably enjoy it a lot more when I’m 21 because I can do a lot more things!
Ed: Come on Jamie, you’re trying to tell me people don’t sneak into bars at 17 or 18?!
Jamie: No, it’s impossible! Everyone gets carded. Everybody! My aunt got asked for ID last year and she’s thirty!
Ed: Well that’s quite flattering, I’m sure she’ll be telling everyone that story. So are you going to be queuing up to get in somewhere at midnight?
Jamie: I’m pretty tired actually. I’m going to get some sleep after this, then go to the gym for a little bit, get some food and then early bed for me.
Ed: Yeah right. Ok, here’s a question from Arka who follows your career in great detail. I’m going to read out all your questions in full because he’s gone into some detail on these.
Jamie: OK.
Ed: The first one says ‘I used to love your partnership with Colin Fleming and I miss the days when you two went round the world in search of ranking points. Now that he’s gone back to studying do you still keep in touch?’
Jamie: Yeah, we speak a lot, and when I’m back home we see each other most days because he’s at the Uni, playing a bit of tennis and obviously I train down there as well. We sometimes go out when we’re back home. We’re in contact a lot.
Ed: Is he still handy?
Jamie: He’s still playing because the Uni has a lot of matches and he’s got a scholarship and stuff, so he’s playing most days.
Ed: Cool. Next question from Arka. Apart from Andy, who have you most enjoyed playing with?
Jamie: I obviously played with Colin for a long time and we were best friends. Booty, we get on really well and Delgado I’ve spent a lot of time with and we get on really well. And Jordan, I never really knew him before we played together, it was really random, but we got on really well as well. I kind of got lucky with my partners!
