Delray: Jamie wins!
17 February, 2008 | 17:02
Jamie is flying out of Florida tonight, but in between room service vacuuming around his feet, we grabbed a couple of quick questions with him earlier.
Pumped with the result (and Manchester United’s thrashing of Arsenal) he was on good form and sends everyone his regards…
Ed: Good day at the office - talk us through it…
Jamie: Well, we saved break points early in our first couple of service games, and then we played a pretty good game to break Bob at five all - came up with some pretty big shots, then Max served it out pretty easily.
And then second set we were holding serve pretty easily, then out of nowhere I lost my serve; they hit three return winners in a row which wasn’t such good news for us.
Then we were down in the tie-break three love and came back and again played some really good stuff and just smoked it!
Ed: When you’re a set to the good against the Bryan brothers, what goes through your mind?
Jamie: I was pretty calm - I knew that we were playing well and we’d come so far in the match and the tournament - took confidence from that. We were obviously giving them a run for the money, and there was no reason why we couldn’t go on and win it.
Ed: Bit of a stupid question given the result, but how are things gelling with you and Max?
Jamie: It’s getting better; we keep working hard to try and improve ourselves individually and as a team so hopefully that’ll take us to more titles.
Ed: And the Bryans? What did they say afterwards?
Jamie: They just said well done!
Ed: Talk us through the chat between you and Max afterwards…
Jamie: Yeah, we were pretty pumped. Max was fired up to beat them, to win the title so soon after we started playing together. I think he’s keen to kind of send a message - let other teams know that we’re here to play, and that we’re going to be a tough team to beat. We’ll try and prove that in the coming months.
Ed: ..and beating the No. 1’s is a pretty good way to do it…
Jamie: Yeah, for sure. I’d never beaten them before; I’m sure Max has beaten them a few times. It gives you confidence to know that you beat those guys and that they’re the best at what they do right now, and hopefully we can take that confidence into the next couple of weeks and keep winning matches.
Ed: Have you spoken to Andy? He was quite excited earlier…
Jamie: He texted me to say well done…(see Andy’s reaction, Ed)
Ed: Sadly for you, you’re packing your bags, so there’s no time to celebrate with some carousing in downtown Delray Beach…
Jamie: Unfortunately not! It’s pretty decent here, so that’s a bit of a shame! Been a good week though, so thanks to everyone for the support!
